Timothy M. Burke's background is largely in local government law and the government decision-making process. Before beginning his law practice, he spent four years in City Hall as a legislative assistant to then City of Cincinnati Councilmember Jerry Springer and was involved extensively in drafting local ordinances. He spent two years as Executive Director of Little Miami, Inc., and twice served on the staff of Congressman Thomas A. Luken. Approximately 60% of his practice involves either representing governmental entities, representing clients in front of governmental decision-making bodies, or litigating for or against governmental entities. He has been Law Director of Lockland for 24 years and for Evendale for four years. He has frequently served as Special Counsel to numerous other local governments. He is often asked to speak on municipal law topics ranging from land use and zoning to eminent domain. He served as Special Counsel to the Attorney General of Ohio for 17 years and represented both Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and the University of Cincinnati on matters assigned by the Attorney General's Office. Mr. Burke maintains an extensive national practice representing fraternities and sororities. He is National Counsel for the National Panhellenic Conference, Pi Beta Phi, Chi Omega, and Phi Delta Theta. He frequently speaks at national, regional, and campus fraternity and sorority events and has contributed extensively to Fraternal Law, a newsletter published nationally by Manley Burke four times per academic year since 1982. Mr. Burke has chaired the Hamilton County Board of Elections and the Hamilton County Democratic Party for the last 14 years. He is the former President of the Xavier University Alumni Board of Governors, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Zoo for 11 years, and for four years was a Park Commissioner for the City of Cincinnati. Mr. Burke holds an undergraduate degree from Xavier University in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been admitted to practice in other states to handle specific cases. Mr. Burke's areas of concentration include local government law, land use / zoning, eminent domain, employment law, personal injury, constitutional law / civil rights, education law, and fraternal law.
