Constitutional Law and Civil Rights

The attorneys at Manley Burke have extensive experience representing clients in the diverse and varied areas of civil rights and constitutional law. In addition to Manley Burke's involvement in governmental process, including land use and eminent domain, the firm has been involved in several pieces of major civil rights litigation.

As examples, we have successfully conducted civil rights challenges to the constitutionality of local sign ordinances, pursued federal housing discrimination actions on behalf of local civil rights organizations, represented classes of inmates in asbestos related claims, and represented employees establishing their right to participate in the Civil Service System. In the United States Supreme Court, we established an individual's right to recover damages from a county government for civil rights violations even where the offending violation was evidenced only by a single act of a policymaking official rather than by a continuing course of conduct.
